PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize catalyst activation using exhaust heat and prevent discharge of a harmful exhaust component at low fuel consumption. SOLUTION: An exhaust temperature is raised by stratified combustion for making an air-fuel ratio of the whole of a combustion chamber as a stoichiometric air-fuel ratio or slightly lean as compared with the stoichiometric air-fuel ratio, under a catalyst temperature rising request. Fuel injection quantity at the time is corrected and calculated according to fuel properties. When light fuel is used, the amount is reduced as compared with that when heavy fuel is used. Correction amount is changed according to a water temperature. The lower the water temperature becomes, the larger the reducing amount rate is increased.
