PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tunnel construction method and a shield machine capable of advancing boring between a plurality of station parts (an underground structure) and its interval space by the same shield machine. SOLUTION: In this tunnel construction method, the shield machine for excavating a tunnel is constituted so as to be disassembled into master shields 22a and 22b and slave shields 31a and 31b, and after excavating the tunnel up to a starting end part of an assembling space 4a by the slave shields 31a and 31b, master-slave shield machines 2a and 2b are assembled by inserting the slave shields 31a and 31b into the master shields 22a and 22b arranged in the assembling space, and after excavating the tunnel up to a disassembling space starting end part from a tail end part of the assembling space 4a by the master-slave shield machines 2a and 2b, the master-slave shield machines 2a and 2b are disassembled again into the master shields 22a and 22b and the slave shields 31a and 31b in a disassembling space, and the tunnel is excavated from the disassembling space tail end by using the slave shields 31a and 31b. The tunnel construction method is characterized by continuously excavating the tunnel different in a cross section by properly using the master-slave shield machines 2a and 2b and the slave shields 31a and 31b.
