PURPOSE: A system for controlling standby power of an air conditioner and control method thereof are provided to drive load of the air conditioner at existing set value when returning to a normal mode after standby mode. CONSTITUTION: A system comprises an input power supply part(110) supplied with utility voltage for driving an air conditioner; a first direct current voltage generating part(120a) and a second direct current voltage generating part(120b) converting utility voltage supplied to the input power supply part into direct current voltage through a transformer and supplying to load(150) and a microcomputer(160), respectively; a cut-off switching part(130) cutting off direct current voltage output by the first direct current generating part; a first constant-voltage generating part(140a) smoothing direct current voltage supplied through the cut-off switching part to output as constant voltage; a second constant-voltage generating part(140b) smoothing direct current output by the second direct current voltage generating part to output as constant voltage; the load driven by constant voltage generated by the first constant-voltage generating part; and the microcomputer driven by constant voltage generated by the second constant-voltage generating part.
