PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small-size, highly reliable optical device at a low cost by joining optical elements without using an adhesive. SOLUTION: In the method for manufacturing an optical device by joining at least one face of a magnetic garnet to a polarizer directly or through a translucent optical material without using an adhesive, a metal oxide film having a lower coefficient of linear expansion than the coefficient of linear expansion of the polarizer is formed on one surface of the polarizer. Thereby, the polarizer is warped to form a convex face on the face where the metal oxide film is formed. Then the concave face of the warped polarizer is joined with the magnetic garnet or the translucent optical material. |
