PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bright coating composition capable of forming such a bright coating film that never gives impression of a particle-like feeling caused by an aluminum flake pigment bus has denseness, so that the coating film satisfies requirements as a metalescent design coating film, to provide a method for forming the bright coating film, and to provide a multilayer coating film. SOLUTION: This bright coating composition contains the aluminum flake pigment and a vehicle, wherein the aluminum flake pigment satisfies a requirement in the following: a point (X, Y) indicated in a rectangular coordinate system by taking an average particle diameter (μm) of the pigment as the x-coordinate (X) and an average particle thickness (μm) thereof as the y- coordinate (Y) exists in a region surrounded by each of straight lines with which points A (3.5, 0.01), B (6.0, 0.01), C (60, 0.1), and D (35, 0.1) are each connected. Further, the method for forming the bright coating film and the multilayer coating film are provided in the specification, respectively.
