PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air conditioner that can effectively disinfect fungi, bacteria, etc., which occur not only in a room, but also in the air conditioner. SOLUTION: This air conditioner receives an operation stopping instruction from a controller, etc. When the air conditioner receives the instruction ('Yes' in step S72), the operation of the air conditioner is stopped usually by stopping heat exchanger sections, blowers, an ion generator, etc., but, in this invention, the blowers and ion generator are operated for a first prescribed period of time after the air conditioner is stopped (step S73). Consequently, the anions and cations generated from the ion generator are discharged to the outside by means of the blowers and the discharged anions and cations are again sucked by means of the blowers. Therefore, the fungi and bacteria which occur in the air conditioner can be disinfected effectively.
