PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of positioning stop control for a rotation drive system capable of performing positioning stop accurately within short time. SOLUTION: While performing positioning stop for the rotation part of a rotation drive system stopping at a targeted position, the control method detects and latches the deceleration starting speed Va at the beginning of deceleration, and simultaneously calculates and latches the initial remaining distance Lin of the rotation part before stopping at the targeted position. During deceleration, the method divides the remaining distance Lcs at deceleration every control cycle by the initial remaining distance Lin, and simultaneously calculates the square root of the result, furthermore, multiplies the square root by the starting speed Va at the beginning of deceleration and calculates the speed instruction value Vr at deceleration.
