<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a condensed cyclic hydroperoxide or condensed cyclic alcohol in high selectivity from the corresponding condensed cyclic compound including an aromatic ring-condensed cycloalkane ring. SOLUTION: This condensed cyclic hydroperoxide where a hydroperoxy group is bound to one of the carbon atoms composing the cycloalkane ring is obtained by oxidizing with oxygen the corresponding condensed cyclic compound including the aromatic ring-condensed cycloalkane ring in the presence of an imide compound having a cyclic imido skeleton of formula (I) [where, X is an oxygen atom or OR group (R is H or a hydroxyl-protecting group)] and in the absence of any cobalt compound. The other condensed cyclic alcohol is obtained by reduction of the thus obtained condensed cyclic hydroperoxide.</p> |
