PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic tensioner capable of restraining abnormal sound by damping vibration of a presser plate caused by stick slipping occurring between an friction plate and the presser plate. SOLUTION: The automatic tensioner devised to damp oscillation of an oscillating arm 2 by interposing the friction plate 7 between the presser plate 6 fixed on a distal end of a support shaft part 1a of a fixed case 1 and a boss part 2a of proximal end of the oscillating arm 2 supported on the support shaft part 1a free to oscillate is constituted to press fit a resin ring in an outer peripheral edge of the presser plate 6. The abnormal sound is restrained by effectively damping vibration of the presser plate 6 by press fitting the resin ring in the outer peripheral edge as the outer peripheral edge of the presser plate 6 is the largest in amplitude.
