Each portion into which the printed matter has been divided includes at least one perforated pack edge (20) and a coating fluid proof against water, steam and oil is then applied to the edge. This coated edge is then dried once so as to allow the coating to diffuse into the abutted edges (18). The edge is preferably perforated in the printing machine and is then coated in water-, steam- and oil proof fluid at least once and is then allowed to dry so the fluid diffuses into the abutting edges. The printed matter can be perforated right through or only part of the way through. Preferred coating fluid is dispersion varnish and/or radiation-hardening varnish. |
