PURPOSE: The pupil extraction method using an eye image is provided to estimate the physical constitution or the health condition, or to find the pupil boundary exactly for extracting an iris area. CONSTITUTION: The pupil extraction method using an eye image comprises the following steps. Whether wearing a glasses or not is decided by the saturation of a histogram of the obtained iris image(S100). The pupil area is divided by the minimum point existing in the dark area of the histogram(S102). The center and the semi-diameter of the pupil are calculated by the pupil boundary point of the divided pupil area(S104). The distortion of the pupil is calculated by the difference between the boundary value, shown by the center and the semi-diameter, and the real pupil boundary(S106). The boundary of the iris is detected from the boundary of the pupil when the boundary of the pupil is detected(S108). The iris area, which is composed with the boundary of the pupil and of the iris, is extracted(S110). Whether the iris is right or left is decided by the difference between the extracted pupil center and the iris center(S112). So, the personal health condition can be automatically checked according the distorted shape of the pupil boundary.
