PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To secure a vehicle engine stop time when a vehicle is stopped in an air conditioner for a vehicle having a variable displacement compressor to be mounted on a vehicle having a control function to automatically stop the vehicle engine when the vehicle is stopped (economy-run car), and driven by the vehicle engine. SOLUTION: When the vehicle drives, delivery displacement of the variable displacement compressor 1 is variably controlled to control temperature of an evaporator 9. As a stopping demand to the vehicle engine 4 is given when the vehicle is stopped, delivery displacement of the variable displacement compressor 1 is kept at the maximum displacement, and by selecting the vehicle engine 4 stop or operation based on the temperature of the evaporator 9, the compressor 1 is controlled to be discontinuously actuated.
