PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermally developable photosensitive material excellent in storage stability, having excellent gradation, a high maximum density and low fog and containing a silver saving agent preventing generation of interference fringes and to provide an appropriate image recording method using the thermally developable photosensitive material. SOLUTION: In the thermally developable photosensitive material having a backing layer on one face of a support and an imaging layer comprising at least an organic silver salt, photosensitive silver halide, a reducer and a silver saving agent and a protective layer stacked in this order on the other face of the support, it is characterized in that the silver saving agent has been microencapsulated.
