PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector which has superior cooling capacity and can emit high projection luminous flux and is free of deterioration of a projection image by a method which neither increases the rotational frequency of a cooling fan unnecessarily nor makes the back focus of a projection lens as long as possible. SOLUTION: In the projector, a partition wall 9 is arranged as a structure for separating: the space on the light incidence surface side of a dichroic prism 4 where liquid crystal panels 3R, 3G, and 3B incidence-side polarizing plates 6R, 6G, and 6B, and exit-side polarizing plates 7R, 7G, and 7B are arranged; and the space on the light exit surface side of the dichroic prism 4 where a projection lens 5 is arranged. The air in the space on the light incidence surface side of the dichroic prism 4 is made to flow by an evacuation type axial flow fan 16 to cool the liquid crystal panels and polarizing plates.
