摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a belt type continuously variable transmission capable of preventing abnormal abrasion and seizure and capable of sufficiently transmitting torque. SOLUTION: A contact surface of a pulley 14 to be brought into contact with a surface of an element is made into a flat surface made up of steel surfaces 36 and ceramic surfaces 34 by radially forming a large number of the ceramic surfaces 34 between an outer peripheral end and an inner peripheral end of the contact surface, in the belt type continuously variable transmission constituted by suspending a transmission belt having a large number of elements having the steel made pulley contact surfaces in the thickness direction between a pair of the pulleys the groove width of which made variable. Consequently, the transmission belt is constantly made contact with the steel surfaces 36 and the ceramic surfaces 34 of the pulley 14. With this constitution the seizure on the ceramic surfaces 34 is prevented even when frictional heat generating in association with torque transmission becomes high, and transmission of sufficient torque is implemented since a friction coefficient is made high by absorption and reaction work of an additive of lubricating oil on the steel surfaces 36.
