PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a game machine in which the durability of a variable resistor used in a starting device is enhanced so that the amount of operation of a start lever and a starting force correctly match over a long period. SOLUTION: The game machine has a variable resistor for controlling a starting force when a game is started. The variable resistor has electrically conductive films (e.g. resistance film 67 and electrode film 69), and a conduction means 73 which is actuated as the start lever is actuated while in conduction with the films. The conduction means 73 has a projecting sliding part 77 comprised of projecting parts 77a having curved sliding surfaces 73b at their protruding ends and arranged in parallel, the sliding part sliding against the conductive films. When the variable resistor has two conductive films, an auxiliary plate may be placed between the second conductive film placed on the inner periphery and a connecting line for electrically connecting the conductive film to a connecting terminal located on the second conductive film of the variable resistor.
