NEW POLYCYCLIC AROMATIC HYDROCARBON-DECOMPOSING BACTERIUM AND NEW POLYCYCLIC AROMATIC HYDROCARBON- DECOMPOSING AGENT CONTAINING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To acquire a microorganism effective for decomposition treatment of benzo[a]pyrene by carrying out screening of a bacterium capable of efficiently decomposing benzo[a]pyrene from a sample obtained from a crude oil-gushing ground and to provide a treating agent for toxic polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon which was untreatable by an existing microorganism formulation or microorganism material. SOLUTION: This bacterium is a bacillus obtained by culturing a bacterium which inhabits in soil collected from the crude oil-gushing ground by using benzo[a]pyrene represented by chemical formula (1) as a carbon source and having properties which is gram-positive and positive against oxidase activity and positive against catalase activit and has a polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon- decomposing property. This polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon-decomposing agent comprises the bacterium.
