PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a continuous casting method with which a cast slab having good quality can be produced by controlling pinch force and Joule heat given to a solidified shell at the initial stage so as to uniformize these in the peripheral direction. SOLUTION: In the method for continuously casting a steel with which plurality of vertical slits are formed on a mold wall in a mold for producing the cast slab having a rectangular cross section and a high frequency electromagnetic coil is set on the outer periphery of the mold and the operation is performed while acting the electromagnetic force with the electromagnetic coil, the operation is performed so as to approach the winding-start point and the winding-end point in the electromagnetic coil, in the view in the vertical direction.
