PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a container-pushing-in apparatus capable of pushing a container under conveyance by a carrier into a pocket of the carrier so that the container is not dropped from the carrier during retort sterilization even if the container is a thin-wall container. SOLUTION: A nozzle 10 for jetting steam to the pocket 6a of the carrier 6 is installed in the position where the carrier 6 is lifted from the surface of hot water of a retort vessel 3, to push back the container 25 pushed out with the hot water discharged from the carrier 6 when the container is pulled up from the hot water layer 31 into the pocket of the carrier 6. The amount of the used steam is not changed from that in the conventional method because the steam used for pushing back the container 25 is obtained by distributing the steam to be sent into the retort vessel 3. The jetting of the steam is synchronized with the movement of the conveyor with the carrier, and regulated so that when the conveyor with the carrier moves, the steam is jetted, and when the conveyor is stopped, the jetting is stopped.
