PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rail having residual stress distribution to provide excellent durability and straightness by rolling straightening. SOLUTION: The rail excellent in the durability and the straightness, has compressive residual stress in the outer layer at <=1 mm from the surface of the rail after straightening and the absolute value of the residual stress in the cross section of the rail is <=10% of the deformation resistance of the rail.
