PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that a conventional finishing method for interior and exterior coatings using a coating means such as a sprayer, a roller, a brush, or a trowel is limited in the capability for giving an excellent design and that a finishing method capable of easily and conveniently giving an excellent design is demanded because of the decrease in the number of skilled coating workers. SOLUTION: Finishing capable of giving an excellent design can be easily realized by adopting a coating-finishing method which comprises applying a resin-emulsion-based base coating material to form a base layer, applying a top coating material comprising a resin emulsion, a design-imparting material, etc., to form a top coating layer, washing the surface of the top coating layer with a brush, a sponge, or the like containing water before the top coating layer dries, and causing a water-absorbing material to absorb excess water adhering to the surface, thus exposing a part of the surface of the design- imparting material.
