PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a bar coating apparatus capable of obtaining uniform coating surface quality corresponding to coating targets different in thickness, and a bar coating method using the same. SOLUTION: The press roll 54 coming into contact with an aluminum web 14 on the side opposite to a coating bar 16 is arranged between a support roll 32 and the coating bar 16 and supported by a support device 55 so as to be made liftable. Since the clearance between the aluminum web 14 and a weir plate 12 can be adjusted corresponding to the thickness of the aluminum web 14, uniform coating surface quality can be obtained corresponding to the aluminum webs 14 different in thickness.
