PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved ultrasonic imaging system and method that can embody an effective hardware structure and a high resolution ultrasonic image without damaging the quality of the ultrasonic image. SOLUTION: The ultrasonic imaging system includes a transducer array 20 having a plurality of transducers each converting input signals to electrical signals, and provided for each of groups totaling to N, a first delay section 22 having a plurality of first delay elements delaying electrical signals from the transducer by first delay time for each of the group totaling to N, first adders 24 totaling to N adding delay signals from the groups of the first delay section, pulse compressors 25 totaling to N carrying out pulse compression to addition signals given from the first adders, second delay elements 26 totaling to N delaying pulse compression signals given from the pulse compressors by second delay time, and at least one second adder 27 performing addition of delay signals given from the second delay elements totaling to N.
