PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a washing machine that can prevent clothing from getting caught on or contacting an outer tub cover even if clothing jumps out of an inner tub during dehydration, and prevent damage to the clothing and the washing machine. SOLUTION: The washing machine has an outer tub 11 in which water for washing and rinsing can be collected, an inner tub 13 rotatably provided in the outer tub 11, a balance ring 14 mounted in the upper portion of the inner tub 13, and an outer tub cover 12 mounted on the upper portion of the outer tub 11 and covering the outside portion of the top face of the balance ring 14. The top face 12a of the outer tub cover 12 and the inside surface of the top face 14a of the balance ring 14 are nearly flush with each other.
