PURPOSE: An apparatus for driving a flat display panel and a method for the same are provided to create a gray level clock signal corresponding the correction amount of the input data by forming the gray level clock generation block at a control block, thereby adjusting the white balance without the reduction of the gray level number, which, in turn, thereby preventing the step distortion of the gray level representation after the correction. CONSTITUTION: A method for driving a flat display panel(32) includes the steps of: determining the correction amount of the input data in response to the illumination, creating the pulse width corrected gray level clock in response to the correction amount and displaying the image on the flat display panel(32) by the data pulse corresponding to the gray level clock and the scan pulse synchronized with the data pulse. The gray level generation step includes the steps of: creating the reference clock signal as the data control signal, generating the correction clock signal as the correction amount of the input data and the data control signal and selectively outputting the reference signal and the corrected clock signal.
