The plant, comprising feed (1), transfer (3) and stacking (21, 22, 23) sections, incorporates an optoelectronic print quality control section with a camera (5) inside a perforated transfer drum (4), a section (12, 13, 14) for printing serial numbers and/or supplementary data, and a system (19) for marking those sheets which are found to be sub-standard by the quality control section. The sheets then go into three stacks for those of acceptable quality, those which are faulty, and those that need to be re-checked.
