Dehalogenation and regeneration of contaminated dielectric and diathermic mineral oils by degasification and dehydration followed by reaction with an alkali hydride

A continuous process for the dehalogenation and regeneration of mineral oils polluted with organic chlorides and/or sulfides, metallic organic compounds and acid oxidation products consists of (a) degasification and dehydration of the polluted oil ; (b) reaction of the dehydrated oil with an alkali hydride at 150 - 300degreesC., without use of catalysts or other reactants, to form the corresponding alkali salt and distil light products present ; (c) clarification of the dehalogenated mineral oil with active earths ; (d) separation of the regenerated and clarified oil ; and (e) cooling of the oil obtained.
