PURPOSE: A memory device for a portable terminal and a control method therefor are provided to replace an NOR-type flash memory of a high price with an NAND-type flash memory of a low price in the portable terminal. CONSTITUTION: A NAND-type flash memory(250) stores a control program code and user data for controlling the entire operation of a portable terminal. The first RAM(260) provides an operation region for executing a control program. The second RAM(270) stores operation data generated when executing the control program. An NAND interface circuit(240) responds to the use request of the control program, accesses the control program code from the NAND-type flash memory(250), and checks the accessed control program code. If the checked control program code is normal, the NAND interface circuit(240) copies the control program code to the first RAM(260).
