PURPOSE: An apparatus for driving a plasma display panel(PDP) and a method thereof are provided, which reduces low discharge by varying a scan width by discriminating a low discharge generation condition in advance in an address interval. CONSTITUTION: An address driving part generates a display data signal by processing an address signal among driving control signals generated according to an external image signal and then applies it to address electrode lines. A sustain electrode driving part processes a sustain driving control signal among the driving control signals and then applies it to sustain electrode lines. A scanning electrode driving part processes a scanning driving control signal among the driving control signals and then applies it to scanning electrode lines. A sub field generation part(10) selects a sub field according to the image signal and includes each cell information. A memory part(20) stores cell information of the sub field generation part. A low discharge retrieval part(30) generates a pulse width control signal by comparing the stored low discharge generation condition through sub field selection information or cell information of the sub field generation part. A data rearrangement part(40) rearranges cell information from the memory part according to a scheduled driving sequence, and generates the display data signal with varied address pulse width by receiving the pulse width control signal. And a signal generation part(50) generates the sustain and scanning driving control signal with varied scanning pulse width. |
