PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a background picture selection system for karaoke machine, which selects and displays a background picture suitable for the age, when a musical piece was popular or was a topic, from a common picture database and immediately reflects increasing contents and richness in contents of the background picture database on services for users. SOLUTION: When accompaniment music and a lyrics picture are synchronously outputted as an audiovisual output on the basis of karaoke data of a musical piece selected from a karaoke database, an index of the background picture database is retrieved on the basis of an age descriptor of the musical piece in the index and a properly selected genre descriptor to select a picture section fitting the age descriptor and the genre descriptor as retrieval keys, and picture data in the picture section is taken out from the background picture database and is displayed as the background of the lyrics picture. |
