PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reserved video recording method based on character input in which a reservation operation is simplified by making it possible to input the title of a program to be reserved and to set a reserved video recording. SOLUTION: A video cassette recorder and the like is provided with: a data input part 10 for inputting a program title for specifying a program to be reserved for video recording; a data separator 30 for separating broadcast program schedule data from a broadcast signal received through a tuning circuit, a data detector 40; a latch part 50; a microcomputer 60 for encoding the program title inputted from the data input part 10, subsequently comparing the encoded data with a code stored in the latch part 50 and storing corresponding broadcast program schedule data when a match occurs; and a video recording and reproducing part 101 for receiving and performing video recording of a corresponding program on the basis of the broadcast program schedule data stored in a reservation program memory 80.
