PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of preventing the back surface staining of transfer material. SOLUTION: In this image forming apparatus having a fixing device thermally fixing an unfixed toner image on the transfer material while holding the transfer material between a pair of heated rotating bodies after transferring a toner image formed on an image carrier to the transfer material, the fixing device is provided with a cleaning member for a fixing roller being the rotating body on a side with which the unfixed toner image comes into contact, and the temperature of a pressure roller opposed to the fixing roller is set to be higher than that of the fixing roller and lower than that at the thermal fixing time, then the fixing roller and the pressure roller are rotated when they do not hold the transfer material.
