A method for the hybrid arc-laser welding of metal components consists of: (a) striking an electric arc using an electrode fed with electric current in the presence of a protective gas containing at least 50% of argon to produce a pilot arc; (b) transferring the pilot arc to the weld zone; (c) providing the weld zone with a protective gas atmosphere containing at least 50% of helium to protect at least part of the weld zone and welding the weld joint, in the presence of this protective gas atmosphere, using a combined laser beam and electric arc.
