PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotating electric machine which prevents a short circuit caused by discharge between a commutator and rotating shaft by simple constitution, without using an insertion pipe or being influenced by thermal deformation of insulators. SOLUTION: The rotating electric machine 10 is equipped with a rotating shaft 50, an insulator 81 attached to the periphery of a rotating shaft 50, a commutator segment 61 attached to the peripheral surface of the insulator 80, and a cap 62 which has a gap with respect to the insulator 81 in the axial direction and is in contact with the end part 61a of the commutator segment. In a rotating electric machine 10 like this, a protrusion 62d which projects in the gap and shields the rotating shaft 50 and the commutator segment 61 is formed on the cap 62.
