PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high pressure discharge lamp and a lighting apparatus using this discharge lamp with shortened total length and reduced size by changing the arrangement of a bridge member. SOLUTION: A high pressure discharge lamp L1 is equipped with an arc tube 4 composed of a translucent ceramic discharge container 1 with a pair of minor diameter tubular sections 12a, 12b arranged so as to communicate with both ends of a swollen section 11 forming a discharge space, lead-in conductors 23a, 23b hermetically sealed within the minor diameter tubular sections 12a, 12b, a pair of electrodes 2A, 2B connected with these lead-in conductors and of a discharge medium 3, a hermetically blocked outer tube, a pair of feeding members 5A, 5B electrically connected with the lead-in conductors of the arc tube 1A and supporting the arc tube 1A, and with a bridge member 6A set at one end of the outer tube and electrically insulating and locking the minor diameter tubular section side of the arc tube and the feeding members. The lighting apparatus uses the discharge lamp. |
