PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain stability in track jump operation. SOLUTION: A disk drive device is provided with a detecting means which detecting the inner or outer circumferential direction of an objective lens moving with a tracking operation and a discriminating means which discriminates also the inner or outer circumferential direction of track jump. Then, the track jump operation is carried out by selecting a track jump pulse consisting of a moving pulse to be a small level and a braking pulse to be a large level if, for example, the moving direction of the objective lens and the direction of the track jump are coincident with each other, and by selecting a track jump pulse consisting of a moving pulse to be a large level and a braking pulse to be a small level if the moving direction of the objective lens and the direction of the track jump are opposite to each other. Consequently, a stable track jump operation can be obtained without being influenced by the objective lens movement incidental to a tracking operation.
