PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium formed by using fine hexagonal ferrite and satisfactory in short wavelength output and a C/N and stable in recorded magnetization when the magnetic recording medium is reproduced by using an MR head and to provide a recording method into the same. SOLUTION: The magnetic recording medium wherein a non-magnetic layer formed by dispersing non-magnetic powder in a bonding agent is provided on a substrate and a magnetic layer formed by dispersing ferromagnetic powder in a bonding agent is provided thereon is characterized in that the magnetic layer contains hexagonal ferrite powder having 10-30 nm average plate size, 135-400 kA/m coercive force He and (-0.16) to (-0.44) (kA/m)/ deg.C temperature coefficient of Hc in 25-75 deg.C. In the recording method, magnetic recording is performed while a recording part and the front thereof are being heated when a magnetic signal is recorded into the magnetic recording medium.
