The cover is distended by pulling on the tongue to create a temporary outlet, and is then compressed to expel the fluid, e.g. atmospheric air, from the container before releasing the tongue to seal it. In a variant of the procedure one of the tongues can be inserted in the container to create an outlet gap, and this can be followed by a re-heating or cooking process, e.g. in a microwave oven.
