PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light emitting element that uses III-V nitride compound semiconductors and emits light having a desired color rendering property by laminating wells emitting different colors of light upon another and mixing the light emitted from the wells with each other. SOLUTION: The active layer of this light emitting element is provided with at least one first well layer composed of an In-containing nitride compound semiconductor, and at least one second well layer which emits light having a longer main peak wavelength than the light emitted from the first well layer has and is composed of an In-containing nitride compound semiconductor. Consequently, when, for example, the first well layer emits blue light and the second well layer emits yellow light having a complementary color relation with the blue light, a white light source can be provided by using one light emitting element by mixing the blue light with the yellow light. |
