HOLOGRAM MEDIUM WITH WAVEGUIDE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make preferable reproducing and recording operation on a hologram possible in a hologram medium which uses an optical waveguide. SOLUTION: The optical waveguide is produced by forming clad layers 2 on both faces of a core layer 1 and forming a grating layer 10 on the interface between the core layer 1 and one clad layer 2. A recording layer 4 is arranged outside of the optical waveguide and parallel to the waveguide planes of the optical waveguide. Since the recording layer is separated from the core layer, the reference light incident to the end face of the core layer does not enter the recording layer at a time. A plurality of core layers, grating layers or clads may be deposited, forms of grating layers may be made different from one another, or the optical waveguide may be spatially separated from the recording layer.
