PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a brush unit which enables suppression of noises generated by a brush to rattle toward the rotatiue direction of a commutator. SOLUTION: In this brush unit 4, the tip of a brush 7 fitted in such a way as to be movable in the radial direction of a commutator 3, is pressed against and brought into contact with the commutator 3. In the brush 7, two housing recesses 7a stretching from its rear end to the tip side are formed. Into each housing recess 7a, a guide member 6 which is fixed to a motor case is fitted idly from the rear of the brush 7, and the brush 7 is supported by the guide members 6 so as to be movable in the radial direction of the commutator 3. Accordingly, the use of a brush holder which houses the brush 7 in such a way as to surround it as in the conventional techniques becomes unnecessary. Consequently, collision of the brush 7 with the brush holder at the outside is avoided, and its noise (collision sound) is suppressed.
