PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for detecting motion blur in a digital image. SOLUTION: This method is provided which includes a step for providing an image representing a digital image, a step for analyzing the image data and calculating a first figure of merit of the digital image in a first direction (X), a step for analyzing the image data and calculating a second figure of merit of the digital image in a second direction (Y), where the second direction is substantially perpendicular to the first direction, a step for calculating a first ratio of the first figure of merit to the second figure of merit, and wherein the first ratio divides the magnitude of the figure of merit greater between the first and second figures of merit by the magnitude of the figure of merit smaller between the first and second figures of merit, and a step for comparing the first ratio with a preselected value, and wherein motion blur exists in the digital image when the first ration is larger than the preselected value. |
