PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To renovate map data efficiently when searching for a route in a communication type navigation system. SOLUTION: The navigation system is so designed that it communicates with the server unit through a communication means. The server unit, upon receiving a request for a route search from the navigation system, searches for routes by using map data, etc., determines a route, and compiles route data. Next, it specifies a block containing meshes necessary in following the determined route, and acquires identification data and renovation data involving the block. Data about the identification of the specified block, renovation, and the route are transmitted to the navigation system. In this way, the navigation system, provided with block renovation data to become necessary for the determined route following the search, is now able to renovate map data by acquiring necessary mesh data by utilizing the block renovation data. |
