PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface acoustic wave device which has a balanced-to- unbalanced converting function and has its balance degree improved and a communication device using it. SOLUTION: Two or more inter-digital electrode parts 11, 12 and 13, and 21, 22 and 23 are so provided on a piezoelectric substrate 60 as to have the balanced-to-unbalanced converting function. The mutually adjacent inter-digital electrodes 11, 12 and 13, and 21, 22 and 23 have at least one of adjacent electrode fingers at border places connected to an unbalanced terminal 5 or balanced terminals 6 and 7.
