PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To get an optional current application pattern of an output current, according to an output current setting signal, in a power converter of positive and negative bidirectional output type which controls the power from a DC power source 5, which is equipped with a switching element. SOLUTION: First and second inverters are composed of switching elements 30-41 and flywheel diodes 42-53 connected in reverse parallel to them, and first and second transformers 10 and 11 which are electromagnetically independent of each other are connected severally to them. On the secondary side, thyristors 60-63 which are connected in reverse parallel to each other are arranged severally for them. This power converter generates a PWM drive signal by the comparison between an output current setting signal and a return signal, as to each action of positive power run, positive regeneration, negative power run, and negative power run, and performs control based on it.
