PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader that can read an image of an original such as clipping articles of one newspaper/magazine or more, or a photograph in a state that a simple memo can be appended or deleted to/from the original. SOLUTION: The image reader is provided with an attachment/detachment fastening tool 9 which freely attaches/detaches double transparent sheets 6 inserted between an original read face 2 and an opening/closing free original retaining cover 7 for retaining an original, the attachment/detachment fastening tool 9 can mount either sheet face of the double transparent sheets 6 on the original read face 2 with inversion, one original paper sheet comprising clipping articles of newspaper/magazine or a photograph or more is inserted between a front sheet 6a and a rear sheet 6b of the double transparent sheets 6 while being laid at an optional position relation, and the image reader reads the original and an image written on the double transparent sheets 6 while a character string or the like is written on either of the sheets of the double transparent sheets 6 to/from which a character string or the like can be written/deleted as a composite image.
