The colored powdered material (1) is applied to a tile surface (3) in a flow of liquid (8) ejected as drops from ejectors (7). The ejectors are arranged as an array controlled by a computer, and associated portions of the powdered material and liquid (9) are deposited precisely on the surface (3) of the tile without scattering from the predetermined pattern. Independent claims are also included for (a) a device that applies powdered material on to a surface e.g. ceramic tile, (b) method and device for three-dimensionally arranging decorating materials, (c) apparatus for producing ceramic tiles, and (d) method for pressing and simultaneously decorating ceramic tiles.
