PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an image defect due to variation in the transfer material carrying power of a transfer member. SOLUTION: When a transfer roller 13 is cleaned by applying the transfer roller 13 with a cleaning bias having the opposite polarity from a transfer voltage when no image is formed, the transfer roller 13 is rotated and the cleaning is carried out longer than the time that the transfer roller 13 requires to make a 1.5 rotation and thus the transfer roller 13 is excellently cleaned to suppress the variation in the transfer material carrying power of the transfer roller 13, thereby preventing an abnormal image from being formed. |
