Seal for optical cable splice protection flange, uses annular seal lodged in open channel between sleeve walls

The flange includes an annular seal (3) lodged in an open channel (8) between a sleeve (4) and two annular front walls (6) of the sleeve one of which is movable. Annular ribs (7) maintain the contact between the sleeve and seal when the front walls (6) are brought together. The flange is designed to withstand the following test procedure. It is fitted to a cable to form an enclosure and immersed in water at a temperature of 25 degrees C and filled with air at a pressure of 500 milli-bar. After the two walls are brought together at 50 percent of the seal thickness no air bubbles must appear during a 48 hour period.
