A pneumatic tire having a puncture-preventive sealant layer that suppresses the generation of decomposition gas and is high in viscosity; and a method o f producing the same. This pneumatic tire has a sealant layer applied to the inner surface thereof, which sealant layer is made of a rubber composition having, as a cobalt component, 0.07-0.5 parts by weight of cobalt salt for 1 00 parts by weight of rubber containing not less than 80 parts by weight of natural rubber or isoprene rubber.
